淫邪發夢第四十三

Unprincipled Xie Giving Rise to Dreams: Chapter 43

黃帝曰:願聞淫邪泮衍,奈何?

Huangdi asked: “I wish to hear about the pooling and spreading of Unprincipled Xie. How is it dealt with?

岐 伯 曰 : 正 邪 從 外襲 內 , 而 未 有 定 舍 , 反 淫 於 臟 , 不 得 定 處 , 與 營 衛 俱 行, 而 與 魂 魄 飛 揚 , 使 人 臥 不 得 安 而 喜 夢 ; 氣 淫 于 腑 , 則有 餘 于 外 , 不 足 于 內 ; 氣 淫 于 臟 , 則 有 餘 于 內 , 不 足 于外 。

Qibo answered: The Zheng (正 authentic qi) engages the Xie at the outside of the body and it unexpectedly moves inside. From there, it may not find a place to inhabit or it may take up residence in the Zang. It must not be allowed to secure itself (on the inside). Assited by the Ying and Wei (nourishment and defense), the Xie moves throughout the body. Assisted by the Hun and Po, it is able to ascend and spread.
When a person lays down, they cannot have peaceful or pleasant dreams.
If there is Unprincipled Xie in the Fu, then there is a surplus on the outside and an insufficiency in the interior.
If there is Unprincipled Xie in the Zang, then there is a surplus on the inside and an insufficiency at the exterior.

黃帝曰:有餘不足,有形乎?

Huangdi asked: If (the situation) is an excess or insufficiency, how will that manifest?

岐伯曰: 陰 氣 盛 ,則 夢 涉 大 水 而 恐 懼 ;

Qibo answered: If the Yin Qi (陰 氣) is in excess, one will dream of experiencing a flood and they will be terrified.

陽 氣盛,則夢大火而燔熱;

If the Yang Qi (陽氣) is in excess, one will dream of a huge fire and be burned by the heat.

陰 陽 俱盛 , 則 夢 相 殺 。

If both the Yin and Yang are in excess, one will dream of killing or fighting with another.

上 盛則夢飛,下盛則夢墮;

If there is excess above, one will dream of flying.
For excess below, one will dream of falling or sinking.

甚 飢 則 夢 取, 甚 飽 則 夢 予 ;

If there is excessive hunger, one will dream of receiving.
If one is overly full, one will dream of giving.

肝氣盛,則夢怒 ,

If the Liver Qi is in excess, one will dream of rage.

肺 氣 盛 , 則 夢 恐 懼 、哭 泣 、飛 揚 ;

If the Lung Qi is in excess, one will have dreams of terror, weeping and ascending upward.

心 氣盛,則夢善笑恐畏;

If the Heart Qi is in excess, one will have dreams of excessive laughter causing terror and dread.

脾 氣 盛 , 則 夢 歌、 身 體 重 不 舉 ;

If the Spleen Qi is in excess, there will be dreams with songs, the body feeds so heavy it cannot rise.

腎 氣盛,則夢腰脊兩解不屬。

If the Kidney Qi is in excess, there will be dreams that low back and spine are separating and cannot be joined back together.

凡 此 十 二盛 者 , 至 而 瀉 之 , 立 已 。

For these 12 types of excess, they can be cured by draining (and through this) the person will regain balance.

厥氣客於心,則夢見丘山煙火;

When Jue Qi (厥氣) is as a guest in the Heart, there will be dreams where one sees hills and mountains with smokey fire.

客 於 肺 , 則 夢 飛揚 , 見 金 鐵 之 奇 物 ;

When Jue Qi is as a guest the Lung, there will be dreams of flying upward where one sees marvelous things made of gold and iron.

客 於肝,則夢山林樹木;

When Jue Qi is as a guest in the Liver,there will be dreams of mountain forests with established trees.

客 於 脾 ,則 夢 見 丘 陵 大 澤 , 壞 屋 風 雨 ;

When Jue Qi is as a guest in the Spleen, there will be dreams where one sees grave mounds covered with swamp as well as an earthen room (tomb) with wind and rain. 

客 於 腎 , 則 夢 臨 淵 , 沒 居水 中 ;

When Jue Qi is as a guest in the Kidney,  there will be dreams of overlooking an abyss; drowning inside the water.

客 於膀胱,則夢遊行;

When Jue Qi is as a guest in the Bladder, there will be dreams of swimming around.

客 於胃,則夢飲食;

When Jue Qi is as a guest in the Stomach, there will be dreams of eating and drinking.

客 於大 腸 , 則 夢 田 野 ;

When Jue Qi is as a guest in the Large Intestine, then there will be dreams of fields gone uncultivated.

客 於小腸,則夢聚邑沖衢;

When Jue Qi is as a guest in the Small Intestine, then there will be dreams of crowded cities with busy streets.

客 於 膽 ,則 夢 鬥 訟 自 刳 ;

When Jue Qi is as a guest in the Gall Bladder, then there will be dreams of fighting and arguing that wound the dreamer.

客 於陰器,則夢接內;

When Jue Qi is as a guest in the Yin Vessel (陰器), there will be dreams of sexual intercourse.

客 於 項 , 則 夢 斬首 ;

When Jue Qi is as a guest in the nape of the neck, there will be dreams of decapitation.

客 於脛,則夢行走而不能前,及居深地窌苑中;

When Jue Qi is as a guest in the shin, there will be dreams of walking without being able to move forward, as well as being inside a deep pit in the earth.

客於 股 肱 , 則 夢 禮 節 拜 起 ;

When Jue Qi is as a guest in the upper arm, there will be dreams of ceremonial salutations in which the arms are raised.

客於胞䐈,則夢溲便。

When Jue Qi is as a guest in the bowels, there will be dreams of urination and defication.

凡 此 十五 不 足 者 , 至 而 補 之 立 已 也 。

For these 12 types of underabundance, they can be cured by nourishing (and through this) the person will regain balance.
