癲 狂 病 第 二 十 二
Dian and Kuang Illnesses: Chapter 22
目 眥 外 決 於 面 者 , 為 銳 眥 ;
在 內 近 鼻 者 , 為 內 眥 ;
上 為 外 眥 , 下 為 內 眥 。
The corner of the eye at the outermost portion of the face is called “Ruizi,” or “sharp corner.”
The corner of the eye on the inside of the face, near the nose is called “Neizi,” or “inner corner.”
The upper part is called “Waizi,” or “upper edge.”
The lower part is called “Neizi” as well, or “inner edge.”
癲 疾 始 生 , 先 不 樂 , 頭 重 痛 , 視 舉 目 赤 , 甚 作 極, 已 而 煩 心 。
候 之 於 顏 。 取 手 太 陽 、 陽 明 、 太 陰 , 血 變為 止 。
When Dian illness begins to generate,
First there is no pleasure,
The head is heavy and painful,
Raising and inspecting the eyes show them to be red,
Everything done is taken to the extremes,
And finally, there is vexation in the Heart and Mind.
The condition will show itself in the face.
Focus the treatment on the Arm Taiyang, Arm Yangming and Arm Taiyin.
When the blood is transformed, stop.
癲 疾 始 作 , 而 引 口 啼 呼 喘 悸 者 , 候 之 手 陽 明 、 太陽 。 左 強 者 , 攻 其 右 ; 右 強 者 , 攻 其 左, 血 變 為 止 。
When Dian illness begins to establish itself,
The person will additionally open the mouth and wail, gasp for breath and tremble with fear,
This is a condition of the Arm Yangming and Arm Taiyang.
If the left side is strong, invade through the right.
If the right side is strong, invade through the left.
When the blood is transformed, stop.
癲疾 始 作 , 先 反 僵 , 因 而 脊 痛 , 候 之 足 太 陽 、 陽 明 、 太 陰、 手 太 陽 , 血 變 為 止 。
When Dian illness starts to establish itself,
First there is contradictory stiffness,
This causes pain in the spine.
This is a condition of the Foot Taiyang, Foot Yangming, Foot Taiyin and Hand Taiyang. When the blood is transformed, stop.
治 癲 疾 者 , 常 與 之 居 , 察 其 所 當 取 之 處 。 病 至 ,視 之 有 過 者 瀉 之 , 置 其 血 於 瓠 壺 之 中 , 至 其 發 時 血 獨動 矣 , 不 動 , 灸 窮 骨 二 十 壯 。 窮 骨 者 , 骶 骨 也 。
In regards to treating Dian illness,
It prospers in a dwelling place.
Examine this area and choose an appropriate treatment for the place.
If the illness continues to move, look to see where it has progressed and then purge that area.
Put the patient’s blood inside a gourd bottle, continuing to discharge the blood for the length of time that it takes to stop flowing.
When the blood stops moving, moxa Qiong Gu using 20 cones. In reference to Qiong gu, this is the sacrum bone.
骨 癲 疾 者 , 顑 齒, 諸 腧 分 肉 皆 滿 而 骨 居 , 汗 出、 煩 悗 , 嘔 多 沃 沫 , 氣 下 泄 , 不 治 。
In regards to Bone Dian Illness,
There will be yellowing of the teeth,
The various acupuncture points at the muscular divisions will all be full
And the bones are stiff.
There is sweating, vexation and palpitations.
If there is vomiting of a large amount of frothy fluids, the qi descends into the drains and there is no cure.
筋 癲 疾 者 , 身 倦 攣 急 大 , 刺 項 大 經 之 大 杼 脈 , 嘔多 沃 沫 , 氣 下 泄 , 不 治 。
In regards to Sinew Dian Illness,
The body is fatigued with convulsions that are urgent and substantial.
Prick the nape of the neck at the Great Shuttle Vessel (Da Zhu: BL 11) of the Great Warp (Da Jing: Great Channel).
If there is vomiting of a large amount of frothy fluids, the qi descends into the drains and there is no cure.
脈 癲 疾 者 , 暴 仆 , 四 肢 之 脈 皆 脹 而 縱 , 脈 滿 , 盡刺 之 出 血 , 不 滿 , 灸 之 項 太 陽 , 灸 帶 脈 於 腰 相 去 三 寸 ,諸 分 肉 本 輸 。 嘔 吐 沃 沫 , 氣 下 泄 , 不 治 。 癲 疾 者 , 疾發如狂 者 , 死 不 治 。
In regards to Vessel Dian Illness,
The person may suddenly fall forward,
The vessels of the four limbs will all swell longitudinally.
If the vessels become too full, drain them through pricking until blood is discharged.
If the vessels are not full, use moxa at the nape Taiyang and moxa the Daimai vessel that is 3 cun below the waist [Wu Shu: GB 27] as well as all of the places where the Ben Shu points are [transport points near the fingers].
If there is vomiting of a large amount of frothy fluids, the qi descends into the drains and there is no cure.
Regarding illnesses of Dian, if the illness expands to Kuang then it will stubbornly refuse cure.
狂 始 生 , 先 自 悲 也 , 喜 忘 、 苦 怒 、 善 恐 者 得 之 憂飢 , 治 之 取 手 太 陽 、 陽 明 , 血 變 而 止 , 及 取 足 太 陰 、 陽明 。
When Kuang starts to form,
First the individual is despondent.
Then there is happiness and forgetfulness,
They are bitter, angry and have great fear.
When it gets to this point, there is a troublesome hunger.
Aim the treatment at the Hand Taiyang and Hand Yangming.
When the blood changes then stop and work on the Foot Taiyin and Foot Yangming.
狂 始 發 , 少 臥 不 飢 , 自 高 賢 也 , 自 辯 智 也 , 自 尊 貴也 , 善 罵 詈 , 日 夜 不 休 , 治 之 取 手 陽 明 太 陽 太 陰 舌 下 少陰 , 視 之 盛 者 , 皆 取 之 , 不 盛 , 釋 之 也 。
When Kuang starts to manifest,
The person sleeps little and is not hungry,
They see the self as having magnificent righteousness, argues philosophically with oneself and has delusions of grandeur as well as calling names and cursing, day and night, without rest.
The treatment for this is to aim at the Hand Yangming, Hand Taiyang and Hand Taiyin and prick the Shaoyin under the tongue.
Look at it to see if all of the channels are full, and if so, treat them. If they are not all full, leave them alone.
狂 言 驚 善 笑 好 歌 樂 , 妄 行 不 休 者 , 得 之 大恐 , 治 之 取 手 陽 明 太 陽 太 陰 。
For Kuang Ravings,
There is surprise, great laughter, a preference for singing of joy and absurdly walking without stop, it is caused by great terror.
To treat this, aim at the Hand Yangming, Hand Taiyang and Hand Taiyin.
狂 目 妄 見 , 耳 妄 聞 , 善呼 者 , 少 氣 之 所 生 也 ; 治 之 取 手 太 陽 太 陰 陽 明 , 足 太 陰頭 兩 顑 。
For Kuang with visual hallucinations, auditory hallucinations, and extreme shouting, this is caused by weak Qi that came from the parents.
To treat this, aim at the Hand Taiyang, Hand Taiyin, Hand Yangming as well as the Foot Taiyin at the head of the two cheeks.
狂 者 多 食 , 善 見 鬼 神 , 善 笑 而 不 發 於 外 者 , 得 之有 所 大 喜 , 治 之 取 足 太 陰 太 陽 陽 明 , 後 取 手 太 陰 太 陽 陽明 。
In reference to Kuang,
The patient will eat ravenously, excessively see ghosts and spirits, have great laughter and not relate with the outside world.
They attained this illness by having a build up of excessive joy.
To cure this, aim at the Foot Taiyin, Foot Taiyang and Foot Yangming and then aim at the Hand Taiyin, Hand Taiyang and Hand Yangming.
狂 而 新 發 未 應 如 此 者 , 先 取 曲 泉 左 右 動 脈 , 及 盛者 見 血 , 有 頃 已 , 不 已 , 以 法 取 之 , 灸 骨 骶 二 十 壯。
In Kuang there can also be sudden onset that has not responded like the previous examples.
In these cases, first aim at Qu Quan (Bending Spring, LV 8), treating both the left and right side vessels. If it is full then you will see blood. In an instant the illness will stop.
If it doesn’t stop, use the method for treating it that utilizes 20 cones of moxa on the sacrum bone.
風 逆 , 暴 四 肢 腫 , 身 漯 漯 , 唏 然 時 寒 , 飢 則 煩 ,飽 則 善 變 , 取 手 陰 太 表 裏 , 足 少 陰 陽 明 之 徑 , 肉 清 取 滎 ,骨 清 取 井 、 經 也 。
In Wind reversal,
The limbs become suddenly swollen, the body will suffer from edema, there will be sudden shivering when it’s cold, hunger causes irritation and fullness after eating causes some transformation.
Aim the treatment at the Hand Taiyin exterior and interior and the Foot Shaoyin and Foot Yangming channels.
If the flesh is cold, aim the treatment at the Ying-Spring points of those channels.
When the bone is cold, aim the treatment at the Jing-Well points of those channels.
厥 逆 為 病 也 , 足 暴 清 , 胸 若 將 裂 , 腸 若 將 以 刀 切之 , 煩 而 不 能 食 , 脈 大 小 皆 澀 , 暖 取 足 少 陰 , 清 取 足 陽明 , 清 則 補 之 , 溫 則 瀉 之 。
In syncope reversal causing illness,
The feet are exceedingly cold, the chest feels like it’s going to crack, the intestines feel like they are being sliced with a knife, there is irritation, the person cannot eat and the great and small vessels/pulse are all unsmooth (澀).
If there is warmth, treat the Foot Shaoyin,
If there is cold, treat the Foot Yangming.
For coldness, the rule is to tonify it. For heat, the rule is to reduce it.
厥 逆 腹 脹 滿 , 腸 鳴 , 胸 滿 不得 息 , 取 之 下 胸 二 脅 , 咳 而 動 手 者 , 與 背 輸 以 手 按 之, 立 快 者 是 也 。
In syncope reversal with abdominal distention and fullness, intestinal sounds and fullness in the chest with difficulty breathing,
Aim the treatment underneath the ribcages on either side.
If the patient is coughing then use your hands, pressing on the Back Shu.
The correct way is to use straight and quick movements.
內 閉 不 得 溲 , 刺 足 少 陰 太 陽 , 與 抵 上 以 長 針 。 氣逆 , 則 取 其 太 陰 、 陽 明 、 厥 陰 , 甚 取 少 陰、 陽 明 , 動 者之 經 也 。
For blockage inside causing the inability to urinate,
Prick the Foot Shaoyin and Foot Shaoyang,
Doing so by using a long (長) needle above the sacrum.
For Qi reversal, the rule is to treat the Taiyin, Yangming and Jueyin.
For extreme cases, treat the Shaoyin and Yangming, in order to get correct movement through these channels.
少 氣 , 身 漯 漯 也 , 言 吸 吸 也 , 骨 痠 體 重 , 懈 惰 不能 動 , 補 足 少 陰 。
For weak Qi,
The body is swollen, the words are as soft as the breath and the bones ache under the weight of the body.
The patient is sluggish and lethargic and cannot move.
For this, tonify the Foot Shaoyin.
短 氣 息 短 , 不 屬 , 動 作 氣 索 , 補 足 少陰 , 去 血 絡 也 。
For short Qi,
The breathing is short and is not continuous,
And movement and work demand much of the Qi.
In this case, one should tonify the Foot Shaoyin and bleed the luo.
