Just Talking and Talking. Sometimes About Chinese Medicine.

The Danzhong Xiu (宿) : Di (氐), Fang (房) & Xin (心)

Di (氐) “Foundation”

According to Walters, this constellation “was regarded as bringing the sweet rains of Spring and the morning dew, but also the illnesses of Spring.” One could predict the qualities of these attributes by determining the brightness of the constellation.
Both Di and Fang are part of the western Libra constellations. It once represented the claws of Scorpius. It is interesting to note both the protective qualities of the scorpions claws, as well as the Laogong point in then hands.

Fang (房) “Room”

The Fang constellation is in the position of the stomach of the Azure Dragon. Fang, 方, the radical on the bottom, can mean direction, honest, method or place. On top is the radical, 户, hu, a picture of a door. If we think of the Pericardium as being the protector or wrap around the heart, this is a perfect metaphor: the door that can swing in either direct, the door that decides upon honesty, method or place, in whether it swings open or closed.
Remember that the door is one of the themes of the Pericardium. Neiguan, or PC 6 is the “internal door.” It is used to treat heart attack, fainting and stroke, but opening up and allowing the consciousness to come back into the body.

Xin (心) “Heart”

Antares, the fire star, used to be contained within the Fang constellation. However, it has since moved here, to the Xin constellation. This constellation was once the symbol for the Emperor.
Antares is approximately 700 times larger than our sun. It is considered to be the heart of the scorpion in the Western Scorpio constellation. It’s name is derived from Greek, meaning “holds against Ares” due to it’s reddish hue, and hence, likeness to Mars.
Here is the relationship between war, or hunting, with the Pericardium. This is a symbol of it’s common themes of loyalty and protection.
