Mythological Hero: Queen Mother of the West 西王母

Dreaming of Skies and the Rising Sun

Dreaming of Skies and the Rising Sun

The Queen Mother of the West is charged with ruling the Western part of the Heavens.  Originally, during the Zhou Dynasty, she was seen as a goddess with the teeth of a tiger who was in charge of sending plagues down upon the world. After Daoism adopted the Goddess, she became the Goddess in charge of immortality.
She is considered to possess a peach tree that blooms every 3000 years and produces peaches of immortality.  When this happens, the 8 immortals are supposed to gather around and eat the fruit to ensure their longevity.
The Queen Mother is often associated with the Jade Emperor, as either his wife or daughter. This is a good correlation between the Liver and the Gallbladder.
