Chapter 8 of the Suwen: The Large Intestine
大 腸 者 , 傳 道 之 官 , 變 化 出 焉 。
The large intestine holds the office of the one who channels the Dao (the sage) and change and transformation come from it.
The large intestine is the channeler of the Dao, and in doing so, the healthy large intestine is able to transform that which is immaterial into that which is material. The Dao created the human being and in connecting with it, the large intestine receives instruction on which materials are nutrient rich and should be absorbed into the body and which materials are better excreted into the world. When this connection is damaged in some way, there is large intestine pathology, resulting in the overproduction of material goods, almost as if the record of the Dao’s knowledge is skipping, over and over, and the large intestine cannot get it back on track.
The character bian, 變 , shows the weaving of silk above a hand. It can have the meaning of the weaving together of parts, which hua,化, can be interpreted to be. In channeling the Dao, often one has to work with symbols. and it is the job of an excellent storyteller to weave symbols together in a way that represents the truth of the Dao. In this way, the healthy large intestine is able to teach as Jesus and Confucius did, for the purpose of helping others to find the truth. When there is large intestine pathology, this weaving together of symbols can start to occur for the benefit of the person, rather than the benefit of the truth, and a situation similar to Hitlers can occur.
