Mythological Hero: Huang Di 黃帝
It was written in the Shiji,史記, that Huangdi ruled around 2500 BC. The emperor is credited with the creation of Chinese medicine, in collaboration with his own doctor, Qibo. This interest in natural health is what has been attributed with giving him 100 years of life and immortality.
Huangdi is supposed to have met with Baize, a legendary Chinese monster, atop Mount Dongwang. Baize told Huangdi about all the types of monsters, shapeshifters and demons that existed in the world and these were recorded in the Baize Tu, which no longer exists. The Japanese have a similar legend, in which the Kutabe appeared above Mount Tateyama, and prescribed it’s own image, the kutabe, to be used by healers to ward off demons. The kutabe looks very much like a goat and this is possibly an important connection between the role that the Small Intestine plays as the Heart’s Fu organ.
