The symbol of the Martial Artist

The physiology of the Gall Bladder can be seen in the symbol of the healthy martial artist. The term “martial artist” literally means the art of war, as “martial” is a reference to Mars, the god of war. A healthy Gall Bladder shows a willingness to die for a cause, just as a healthy martial artist will. In ancient Greek and Roman times, martial artists participated in Olympic Games, in which they fought for the cause of their country.  Gladiators that fought in ancient Rome are known for their pride at their origins, and even when fighting for a different ethnic group, they would make sure that their true ethnicity was scribed on their headstone.
Much courage is required of martial artists, and courage definitely goes with the Gall Bladder. The Lingshu, Chapter 50 says that a Gall Bladder full of intense bile is to be found in a person of courage.
