Chapter 8 of the Suwen: The Gall Bladder
膽 者 中 正 之 官 , 決 斷 出 焉 。
In reference to the Gall Bladder, it holds the office of Honesty and Purity. Execution and Decision-making stem from it.
The character for Gall Bladder shows someone calling out from a cave. It is almost as if the Gall Bladder lives inside the Earth, connected completely to it’s mother, and to Nature. As mentioned above, the Gall Bladder is all about connection to it’s lineage. From this connection comes the honesty and purity that provide it with the utmost courage and the ability to make decisions and the willingness to execute these decisions to ensure that honesty and purity prevail. The Gall Bladder is about righteousness and determination to bring righteousness about.
The character duan, 斷, is made of the character for axe, on the right side, and four silk worms in a box on the left. When growing silk, one must decide when it is time to stop them from growing, and execute them once the decision has been made. If this happens correctly, then long strands of silk are produced, otherwise, the cocoons are not fully formed, or they have already been bitten through by the worms.
