The State of Chu 楚
Chu consolidated it’s power by absorbing the lesser states.
It became overrun with the salaries of it’s officials being overpaid. In 390’s, Wuqi, the prime minister helped the state by lowering salaries and expenditures.
Because Chu absorbed so many different cultures, they were known by Confucianists as having “lewd” music and many shamanistic rituals built into their culture. They were obsessed with birds and serpents, which may have been left to them from the Shang Dynasty. They even used the difficult to read Birds and Worms script, 鸟虫文.
As with the monkey, there is a connection with the Bladder in it’s ability to go beyond what is expected from social norms. The Bladder is about going above convention. Perhaps this has to do with the storage of the Zhi by the Kidney, and the executing of it’s mandate by the Bladder. In a healthy individual, the Bladder can help to execute the Zhi (will, destiny, fidelity, etc…) in a way in which society and the individual will ultimately benefit. However, when there is pathology, the Zhi cannot be executed in a balanced manner and either the individual suffers, in the worst case scenario by ending their own life, or the society suffers as the individual is removed from interacting with their group. Perhaps the Bladder can be related with the macabre.
